While our students continue with their regular class schedule, something powerful is happening behind the scenes at Ernie Reyes’ World Martial Arts in Gallatin, TN. For three full days, our senior instructors are pushing through an intense training schedule — logging over eight hours of advanced martial arts training per day — all under the guidance of Great Grand Master Ernie Reyes himself via Zoom. In years past, we’ve flown to California for this level of training. But this time, GGM Reyes has invited us to train remotely — and we’re making every minute count. A Day in the Life of Instructor Boot Camp This isn’t your typical continuing education. Our instructors are on the mats hours before and after our regular classes: Training begins five hours before the first class starts Continues for 2.5 hours after the last student heads home Includes in-depth sessions with world-class instructors This year’s lineup has been nothing short of incredible. Meet the Guest Instructors Grand Master Ron Lew A 10th-Degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Escrima and one of the most respected figures in Filipino Martial Arts worldwide. GM Lew brought deep insight into traditional and practical weapons systems with a focus on flow, timing, and combat efficiency. Professor Leandro Vieira Co-founder of Checkmat BJJ and head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) — the training ground of multiple UFC world champions. His technical depth and coaching philosophy added tremendous value to our continued evolution in BJJ. Special Surprise: Kathy Long A true pioneer in women’s martial arts, Kathy is a six-time World Champion Kickboxer, Black Belt Hall of Fame inductee, and acclaimed fight choreographer. Her session combined elite striking technique, fight IQ, and real-world toughness. Other sessions featured elite MMA coaches and tactical experts, each contributing to a curriculum that is both modern and rooted in tradition. Why We Do This At Ernie Reyes’ World Martial Arts, we don’t just talk about excellence — we live it. We believe in staying on the cutting edge of martial arts. Our instructors are constantly evolving, growing, and sharpening their skills so that every student on our mats receives world-class training and mentorship. This boot camp is just one example of the commitment our team makes to personal development, elite coaching, and preserving the legacy of GGM Ernie Reyes. We’re proud to be part of a tradition that refuses to stand still — and even prouder to bring that level of energy, knowledge, and heart into every class we teach. Ready to Train With Us? At Ernie Reyes’ World Martial Arts – Gallatin, we teach a true Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) system—not just a collection of styles, but a fully integrated curriculum that produces well-rounded, versatile martial artists. Our program combines the most effective elements of striking, grappling, weapons, and self-defense training. Whether you’re looking for practical skills, personal growth, or competitive performance, we help students of all ages and experience levels become confident, capable martial artists. Why Our MMA Program Stands Out Some schools teach only one discipline. Others added “MMA” to their programs more recently to follow the trend. At our school, we’ve been cross-training in multiple martial arts systems since the mid-1970s, back when the term “MMA” didn’t even exist. We are proud to be part of the Ernie Reyes West Coast/World Martial Arts Association, one of the most respected martial arts organizations in the world. In fact, the world-renowned American Kickboxing Academy (AKA)—which has produced more MMA world champions than any other gym—originated from this association. We continue to train with many of their coaches, several of whom earned their Black Belts within our system. Competition Experience That Builds Champions Our curriculum is deeply rooted in real-world results. As a young fighter, I won an international full-contact championship. Many years later, I returned to competition and earned six medals at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships and World Grappling Championships in the Black Belt and Expert divisions—including 1 Gold, 3 Silvers, and 2 Bronzes. Several of our students have also excelled at the state and regional level: • BKJN Matthew is a state champion in both forms and weapons in Sport Karate. • BKJN Melissa, though not a tournament competitor, was the top overall tester among all 4th Degree Black Belt candidates at our most recent Mastery Test. • BKJN Mike, a former collegiate football player and boxer, earned silver at the Tennessee State Grappling Championships. Our school’s Sport Karate tradition is especially strong. I’ve personally won the Forms Grand Championship at a national championship, and that technical precision and creative expression continue to shape our training culture and expectations. Weapons, Sport Karate & Reality-Based Self-Defense KJN Sandy Hughes, a Top Ten world-ranked competitor in both Black Belt Forms and Weapons, brings decades of championship experience and precision to our team. She also occasionally teaches Close Quarter Combat (CQC) to Federal Agents, and is flown to Georgia to provide instruction to specialized units. At the advanced level, our curriculum includes two nationally recognized Reality-Based Self-Defense systems: • CDT/LRT, developed by Tom Patire and used by many federal law enforcement agencies • LINXX, created by Frank Cucci, which served as the standard CQC system for Naval Special Warfare (SEAL Teams and DEVGRU) We integrate age-appropriate techniques from these systems even at the beginner level, helping students develop practical self-defense skills from the start. A System That Grows With You Our martial arts program is designed to grow with the student—from kids’ classes focused on fundamentals to advanced training in striking, grappling, weapons, and real-world self-defense. Whether your goal is confidence, competition, or personal excellence, you’ll find a structured path to long-term success at WCWMA Gallatin. We don’t follow martial arts trends—we helped pioneer them. Start Training at WCWMA Gallatin Today If you’re looking for a Mixed Martial Arts school in Gallatin, TN, or a kids martial arts program that teaches real skills, we invite you to experience the difference at Ernie Reyes’ World Martial Arts – Gallatin. I’ll never forget the moment I realized my son was struggling. It wasn’t the way he flinched at a push-up. It wasn’t how he avoided looking people in the eye. It wasn’t even how quickly he quit if something didn’t come easily. It was the way he carried himself — like he didn’t believe he belonged anywhere. That’s when I understood: confidence isn’t a gift. It’s a grind. And if we, as parents, don’t get serious about building it, the world will get serious about tearing it down. Why Confidence Matters (More Than Ever) Today’s kids are growing up in a world unlike anything we’ve seen before. Social media, cyberbullying, academic pressure, and constant comparison have created a perfect storm. And the data proves it: • Up to 70% of teens say their self-esteem has been negatively affected by social media. (Source: Pew Research Center) • Only 45% of young people describe themselves as “confident” today — a massive drop from previous generations. [(Source: YMCA Study)] • By the time kids are 13, 53% of girls and 38% of boys say they already feel unhappy with who they are. [(Source: Dove Self-Esteem Project)] Let that sink in. Half of our kids are struggling to believe they’re enough before they even finish middle school. Confidence isn’t just about standing tall in a room or raising your hand in class. It’s about believing you can solve problems. Handle failure. Try again when it’s hard. Speak up when it counts. Without confidence, our kids don’t just hesitate — they disappear. The Myth: “They’ll Grow Out of It” Maybe you’ve heard it. Maybe you’ve even thought it: “It’s just a phase. They’ll grow out of it.” But here’s the truth: They won’t grow out of insecurity. They’ll grow into it. Without intentional effort, kids who struggle with confidence today become adults who second-guess, self-sabotage, and settle for less tomorrow. Confidence Must Be Built — Every Single Day Confidence is a skill — and like any skill, it takes practice. It’s built in the small moments: • Finishing the tough homework instead of quitting halfway. • Showing up to the team tryouts even when they’re nervous. • Speaking up for a friend when it would be easier to stay silent. It’s reinforced every time they face a challenge — and don’t back down. That’s why we built a 90-day war plan. Not a handout. Not a pep talk. A real strategy to help kids EARN their confidence through discipline, consistency, and heart. Because kids don’t need to be protected from struggle — they need to be prepared for it. What Happens When Confidence Grows? When kids build real confidence, everything changes: • They take healthy risks — and discover their potential. • They bounce back faster after failure — and keep trying. • They stand taller, speak louder, and dream bigger. And most importantly, they stop looking around for permission to be great. They know it’s already inside them. Let’s Build a Generation That Knows How to Stand Tall If you’re tired of watching your child shrink in the face of challenges… If you’re ready to see them rise up, speak up, and stay strong… Then it’s time to stop hoping for confidence — and start building it. Because our kids deserve more than a safe life. They deserve a strong one.
